Born in in Los Angeles California Cathi Marx recognized as an expert in her field of health & safety, insurance, and risk management consulting. She is currently the Vice President of Aspen Risk Management Group, an employee-owned consulting company - dedicated to providing effective business improvement strategies for commercial, non profit, and government clients. In addition to overseeing client services, Cathi manages 25 independent consultants.
Earlier in her career, Cathi served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves in Port Safety & Security specializing in the safe handling of explosives and hazardous materials.
Cathi has also served in Risk and Safety Management positions for mid-sized companies, and she spent time on both the carrier and insurance agency/broker side of business. Cathi is involved with numerous industry-related associations, including serving as a Coach and Facilitator with Polestar, an insurance industry performance improvement company, and is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the local chapter of Professional Women in Insurance of San Diego. She is an active member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, and has participated as a trainer for the San Diego Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) continuing education requirements.
She is a speaker and consultant to various industry groups, and has been instrumental in assisting numerous non-profit organizations in their safety and security efforts. She has helped hundreds of companies improve their business operations, human resource functions, and safety/health programs.
Cathi has experience in code analysis using government regulations and has a proven strong ability to analyze exposures and loss history to advise and implement safe, cost effective, efficient and regulatory complaint solutions. Examples include: facility audits utilizing California Code of regulations, Title 8, and Federal OSHA regulations, warehousing facility workflow analysis, development and implementation of OSHA required programs, hazard inspection and control procedures, advanced ergonomics, OSHA recordkeeping and ISO 14001.
As a Corporate Environmental Health and Safety Manager for a technology company in San Jose she managed the domestic and international EH&S program. There Cathi played an integral role in obtaining ISO 14001 certification for the U.S. based manufacturing facility. She has experience in developing and implementing corporate Business Recovery and Continuation Programs, integrating all levels of the organization into a comprehensive cohesive recovery plan. As lead loss control consultant for San Jose office of an international brokerage firm, she managed the workload and service requirements for technology and semi-conductor clients throughout the U.S. Cathi also managed a 10 state territory of safety & health consultants for a multi-line insurance company, during which time she was responsible for service quality, productivity, cost effectiveness, and broker / client relationship.
Cathi has extensive training experience in program content development and implementation providing training programs to senior management, broker community, insurance companies, risk managers and employees. She has conducted training on subjects such as: Injury & Illness Prevention Program Development, Ethics of Safety Leadership, ergonomics, sexual harassment, workplace violence prevention, Americans with Disabilities Act, hazard communication, confined space, respiratory protection, electrical safety, laser safety, business continuity, OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 hour courses, and is one of 8 instructors nationwide authorized to teach the Certified Occupational Safety Specialist Course. She has been a speaker at homeland security conferences sponsored by the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security, speaking on such topics as "Safety & Security for Religious Institutions" and "Workplace Security Controls for the Risk Management Professional Post 9-11".
Cathi is an experienced "threat and risk assessment" consultant for religious institutions, providing recommendations for target hardening of facilities. Cathi has a solid understanding in concepts, strategies and applications of "Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design". She is a current and active member of the local chapter of the ADL's (Anti-Defamation League) inter-agency safety and security committee.
